For anyone who has visited Disney’s Animal Kingdom in the summer, you know finding air conditioning is essential in enjoying your day, and a lot of Animal Kingdom quick service dining is outside, including one of my favorite spots, Flame Tree BBQ. For my most recent visit during August, I wanted to try something different and definitely something with air conditioning. After riding Flight of Passage with no wait, I exited the gift shop and smelled something delicious being grilled next door at Satu’li Canteen, so I decided to give it a try. My family has often overlooked this location due to the menu being “different” and not your traditional theme park food. We ordered several dishes and desserts, and they were all delicious!
I ordered the steak and chicken combination bowl with red and sweet potato hash with creamy herb sauce. The steak and chicken were cooked perfectly and were very flavorful, but the herb sauce made the dish! It was garnished with vegetable slaw and what they call “boba balls,” which were tart flavored gummies. The potato hash was a great savory addition, but noodles can be substituted instead.
We also ordered the cheeseburger steamed pods or bao buns. We weren’t sure what these were but decided to give them a try, and they were my husband’s favorite dish! Even the kids liked them! They are basically a pastry stuffed with a hamburger and cheese mixture, and it is served with vegetable chips and slaw. These are available on the kids menu as well.
As you can see, the portions are large and easily shareable if you want to try different dishes! The price point is reasonable as well for the portions.
Of course we had to try the dessert! It was a blueberry cream cheese dessert. It was very similar to a blueberry cheesecake and was a great end to our meal.
We loved our meal, and we will definitely visit Satu’li Canteen again on our next visit to Animal Kingdom! Do yourself a favor and give it a try!
