As you know, we are a couple of brunch lovin’ southern belles, so Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ brunch in Disney Springs felt like home. As connoisseurs of southern cuisine, we tend to be a bit critical, but from the moment we entered, we were overwhelmed with their hospitality.
Since we were decked out in our matching Bibbidi Bobbidi Brunch tees, we chose to start our dining experience with Blueberry Princess Mimosas, and they were DIVINE. Shortly after tasting the blueberry deliciousness, the manager, Jimmy, pulled up a chair and made sure we received a warm Southern welcome.
Our appetizer of choice was the House-made Doughnuts, which consisted of mini doughnuts topped with pecans and bacon, and drizzled with house-made caramel. These definitely hit the mark with their combination of sweet and salty flavors, and who doesn’t love bacon?
Marci ordered the famous Hallelujah Biscuit, which was composed of an open face biscuit with Chef Art’s juicy fried chicken, two over easy eggs, pimento cheese, pecan-smoked bacon, and was covered in sawmill gravy.
As a side, she opted for the cheesiest mac and cheese she’s ever seen, called Momma’s Mac and Cheese (see the picture for proof). Born and raised in the Arkansas delta, she knows good comfort food when she tastes it, and this meal actually brought back the nostalgia of childhood memories of Sunday dinner at Grandma’s.
Upon Jimmy’s recommendation, I chose the staff favorite, Short Rib Hash. This dish consisted of two sunny side up eggs, over house-made short rib hash with grilled corn succotash, potatoes and onions, and was served with a cheddar cheese drop biscuit and a side of grits. This giant entree was so delicious on a scale of 1 to 10, I give it a solid “slap yo’ mama!”
As if this weren’t enough food, our new friend Jimmy brought us several other items to try including French Toast, pecan-smoked bacon, and more Momma’s Mac and Cheese which we didn’t complain about. He insisted that we also try their signature drink, Florida Crush, a concoction of Tito’s vodka muddled with orange and strawberries, finished with fresh squeezed orange juice and agave syrup.
In no time at all, we felt that Jimmy was instant family, so of course, we asked for a photo with him and promised we’d be back. Y’all, this is a representation of the best cuisine the south has to offer, and they may or may not have had to roll us out the door!
